Citylight New York is a new church forming in the heart of Manhattan, preparing to launch publicly in 2027.
Why plant a church in New York? Because millions of people here have never experienced the hope and transforming grace of Jesus. We believe God uses local churches to bring spiritual renewal to cities, and from those cities, to the world.
That’s why Tim and Sarah Shutes and a small team moved to Manhattan in 2024: to help build a church where people can find faith, community, and purpose in Christ.
A church plant isn’t just about starting a Sunday service. It’s about building a spiritual family, reaching neighbors with the gospel, and joining God’s work of renewal in one of the most influential cities on earth.
A church plant is a perfect place to grow in your faith, find meaningful friendship, and join a mission worth giving your life to. New York needs more gospel-centered churches. Come help build one.

Choose Jesus Over Distraction
Sermon Series
Passage: Luke 10:38-42 — Our text tonight is about being a disciple. We’re introduced to two sisters, and we tend to identify with one or the other. Mary sits at Jesus’ feet listening to his teaching, and Martha her sister is distracted by everything that needs to be done to properly host. In the contrast between these two sisters, we see the value of being focused on Jesus over the many things that make us distracted and anxious. The Big idea of the text is: Choose Jesus over Distraction. You could say, be Mary, not Martha. We’ll see two defining marks of a disciple in Mary. Her posture before Christ and her portion in Christ.
