Proverbs: Life in the Real World

Can there be good authority? Righteous authority? In this life? It can feel like the answer is 'never', but you probably recognize that answer is simplistic. There may be someone in your life, a coach, a teacher, a pastor, a family member, who modeled healthy authority for you. If not, then it's harder for you, you may have to see it in your jealousy of others who had good homes, good schools. The answer isn't to irrationally follow abusive authority. But nor is it to reject all authority. We need wisdom. Proverbs gives us what we need. Wisdom for those with authority, and those under authority. No single big idea today, just a sermon title 'Redeeming Authority' with three main ideas. Honor God with authority. Honor God under authority. And Love that redeems authority.
