Embrace God's Pattern of Headship and Submission

Passage: Ephesians 5:22-6:9 — How do Christians approach their households in the modern world? In our passage, Paul steals the ancient pattern of a ‘household code’ and adapts it show God’s countercultural vision for our lives. He’s saying, “God cares.” God has a vision for your household. If you’ll follow it, your marriage will thrive, your family will prosper, and ultimately as Christians live out his vision, society becomes more just. The big idea from our passage is this: Embrace God’s Pattern of Headship and Submission. We’ll take it in two parts. First, recognize God’s pattern. Second, apply God’s pattern in your household. Throughout we’ll see that from the beginning, our good God has planned the way for us to have thriving marriages, prosperous families and a more just society.
