Passage: Daniel 1:1-21 — Chapter one of Daniel is an introduction to the book. It opens by showing how God is in control in all circumstances. Even when it looks like the world is winning, God is in control. That’s the big idea: God Triumphs over the World. When the Bible talks about “the world” it means the unbelieving systems and cultures set up in opposition to God. Systems and cultures like Babylon. Our passage shows us how God triumphs over the World. He distinguishes his people. He preserves his people. He exalts his people.
