Life's full of enough burdens. Paul's writing to share his burdens with the church in Colossae in order to lift their burden. They faced so many challenges, so many pressures. He's letting them know that there's news for them that is so good, so transformative, that he's willing to suffer greatly to bring it to them. He wants them to know his struggle. Why? Because he wants them to know the gospel. And if they know how much he suffered to bring it to them, they'll never forget it, despite the many pressures around them. They're tempted to forget! Just like us. God doesn't lay a heavy burden on us when we forget, he gives us good news! The gospel is the good news that God has – the best news of his son Jesus and all he has done to redeem us. God doesn't lay a heavy burden on you. He wants you to know about his Son, and hold onto him. This is the big idea of the passage we just read: hold fast to the true gospel. This is the light burden God gives to us. He brings us good news, and he says hold fast to it. And our passage gives us two ways to do that. First, listen intently to the gospel, and Second, remain in the gospel.
