Passage: Luke 12:49-59 — In today's passage, Jesus says, “I came to bring fire.” And then, “I have a baptism to be baptized with.” Fire and water. Fire points to God’s coming judgment on evil. The baptism before Jesus is the cross, where he accomplishes salvation. The big idea of the text is this: Jesus Came to Bring Judgment and Salvation. We’ll look at each closely as we walk through the text and see: The crisis he brings, the moment we’re in, and the debt he paid.
