Jesus Defeated the Devil, So We Can Resist Him

Passage: Luke 4:1-13 — We are all tempted in various ways. It is part of our common human experience. In today's passage, Luke shows us that Jesus himself endured temptation, just like we do. The Devil came to tempt Jesus, but Jesus overcame the temptations and defeated the devil. Because of this, we can resist temptation and look to Jesus as an example of how to respond when temptations come. This gives us our big idea for the passage: Jesus defeated the Devil so we can resist him. We will see three ways the devil comes at us, and three ways to resist him like the Lord Jesus did. First, live by God’s Word, not your flesh. Second, choose faithfulness over shortcuts. Finally, trust, don’t test.
