Colossians: All I Need is Christ

Listen in, and prayers will reveal to you someone's heart. Paul doesn't just pray for the church in our passage. He tells them what he's praying for. He reveals his heart by revealing his prayers. Of course they'd be encouraged by this. But wouldn't you also feel challenged to live up to it? It's a gift or them. Orienting to them. And orienting for us. Here, in these few verses we see Paul's heart for the church. What Paul fundamentally wants for the church is summed up in this phrase – that they would learn to be "fully pleasing to him". Wouldn't be awesome to know exactly how to please God? Paul prays they would learn exactly that. The big idea from the passage is this: Learn to Please the Lord. As we walk through Paul's prayer together, we'll see three gifts God has given us, that reveal how to please him. Three gifts from God, each one teaches us something about who he is, and what he wants from us. Here they are: He gave us purpose, He gave us power, He gave us his Son.
