Passage: Daniel 8:1-27 — Daniel 8 is written to people facing incredible environmental stress. God’s people were exiled to Babylon, and the day of their return to Jerusalem is getting incredibly close. Then God gives Daniel a vision of the near future, which shows that despite returning to Jerusalem soon, they will face intense persecution and constant pressure. He gives this vision to his people not to discourage them, but to give them what they need to endure. In it we can learn how to endure our own troubling times when it seems like there isn’t an end on the near horizon. We can learn how to continue in faith and obedience to God, when we feel like our faith is under constant pressure. God reveals the path to peace, productivity, even joy in hardship. The big idea is this: Our God Makes Us Resilient. We’ll see three gifts God gives us that strengthen us and help us endure. First, he strengthens us for troubling times. Second, he enters our distress. And third, he breaks evil.
