Passage: Luke 22:24-34 — Former Citylight New York member Rogelio Guaita was with us to preach the message, taking a one week break from the book of Daniel. Drawing from Luke 22:24–34, he contrasts the world’s “benefactor system”—serving in order to gain power, status, or recognition—with Jesus’ radically different vision of greatness. Jesus, though fully God, emptied himself to become a servant, not acting from expectation or self-gain but from the fullness of love already possessed. He calls believers to reject relationships driven by assumption and entitlement, and instead live from the fountain of God's grace—serving, loving, and giving without needing return. Like Peter, who was known and loved even in failure, the church is invited to be restored and sent forward to embody servant-hearted mission in the city.
